When we talk about resources it is often difficult to identify them, especially for some characters it is much easier to start from the defects, right? I guess you can write right now a list of at least 10 aspects of you that you don’t like, that you think are dysfunctional.

Our most precious resources sleep within us, and to wake them up we must delicately go inside, overcome the surface.

We said that if they sleep we do not use our full potential, but just the awake part: so it is worth waking them up right?

Knowing better our character, our defences, our defects, our way of being in the world, allows us to access our resources, our strengths and our qualities.


CHARACTER (the yellow part of the drawing)

“What a bad character you have!” Has anyone ever told you?

The good news is that there are no better characters than the others.

The bad news is that the character cannot be changed, it accompanies us throughout our lives. We can only get to know it and choose how to use our traits instead of acting automatically and being slaves to them.

Which of these words represents you the most? Try reading them as “I am a …”:

perfectionist, altruist, performer, romantic, observer, skeptic, optimist, boss, mediator.


RESOURCES (the rainbow part of the drawing)

Any cognitive, emotional, experiential skills available to you. We draw on resources to solve problems.

What have you done in the past to solve a problem?

Did it work? Well, then that’s your resource!

Or what did you do to keep it or make it bigger? In this second case, you can discover a resource by trying a solution or behaviour different from what led you to make a mistake.

What motivates you to wake up in the morning?

What makes you feel motivated?


QUALITY (the purple part of the drawing)

A little deeper we find the qualities: they are within us and are part of us. These are our strengths. Try to see if some of these words ring out to you:

serenity – acceptance – humility – generosity – sincerity – truth – equanimity – valorisation – non-attachment – closeness – courage – trust – sobriety – seriousness – vulnerability – innocence – right action – self-love …

The experiential work we do during the workshops helps us become aware of how we are, how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us. Once you find your resources, your talents and qualities we learn to take care of them, just like you do with a garden!
